It obviously isnt burnt out no....but I think the flickering is sign of an impending burnout similar to how a light bulb sometimes might flicker for a few days and finally go out.
In terms of the reflective tape...that is a great idea...but the guy who did that with the blue needles....had to install a neon blue light on his steering wheel...I dont want that. Now if I just put the tape on there...Im not sure what it would reflect off of....
This is because unlike my Bimmer....where the whole round gauge is lit up.....the Lexus gauge only lights up the numbers and notches...not the whole gauge. If they would have lit the whole guage they would have never needed the needles like they are.

check this pics out, I got these a long time ago from a website, I think its the UK or something, cant remember. I havent tried this so I dunno if this would work, but for what I remember these were the parts to replace, they wear out after a while because our dashboards are basically ON 24/7

I heard about that....but I thought I also heard that was only for UK cars....but if anyone could confirm that would be great.
I cant see how those 2 capacitors though could control the needles.

Doesn't the Soarer have a digital dash. I think the repair on the UK page may be for a different illumination fix. Can someone please confirm this.
Hey square - you have a really damn fine point. People that use language like that are really f###ed up!

Hate to Burst your buble..
But that fix is only relevant to the JDM spec Soarers as we have digital dashes.
I cant see why you wouldnt be able to fix your needle problem with a bit of backlighting and perspex though. Get some mini Surfacemount LED's from Jaycar/DickSmith electronics and hook em up.
Worse comes to Worse, invest in an APEXI RSM or S-AFC and use the logging/display to show your speed/rpm. APEXi RSM's cost AUS$350... so US$170? I dunno. Pretty easy to hook up as well, and you get 1/4 mile times logged, and the funky blue screen etc. All these options are availiable, but if you want to keep the original look of needles and dash you can spend a wad of cash to get new originals.
Toan.
