1994 SC 400 WITH 180,000 miles
Hey is this worth it for 3000, the outside looks good, and it runs good. On average how long do these last. Would you say about 250,000? Also what are some common problem with these cars and also just some general cons like low gas mileage. Please help....
Thanks

If those miles are highway miles then you can count on it last up to 300k..I know this guy has a camry with 300k miles, he drives on highways most of the times and of course good maintenance would help.

Well, maintenance records? Because if it had the Timing belt at 90K as it was supposed to, then it's due for another. I bought my '97 with 147K for $4800. Look at the power steering pump and make sure it's not leaking, if so it takes the alternator out too. Check normal things, condition of auto trans fluid for condition, and such. How's the inside? A/C work?

I bought some parts off an older guy today, he has a 92 sc400 with 345,000. He bought it with 120k. He says he hasnt changed the t belt, he believes the original owner didn't either. The only major thing he replaced was the tranny. Those v-8's are tanks.

would say definitely get it checked out [inspected] if you dont know where to look or find if there is any problems. carfax is another option. ask for receipts if they have done anything to the car and how many owners the car had. like everyone is saying, if the owners have maintained the vehicle well to this day, i would say buy it. till it breaks down in the next 75,000-150,000 miles, you'll have saved up enough and be able to swap into a VVTi 1uzfe. thats just imo tho =P

That old guy is rolling the dice with the timing belt every single time he drives it. Sure he won't be out more than a T-Belt service, but I wouldn't want that to happen on some empty mountain road.... Deliverance style.

Yep, he said he had just came back from florida too. 3,000+ roadtrip. When I was looking at sc's I was loooking for a 5spd.(got one last week). If I had to go with an auto, I would get a sc400. You see them with 200+ miles all day for sale. Just look at maintenance, if its up to date, then Id go for it. Good luck
