I use castrol 5w30. My car has 120k on it, is it better for a OLDER Car? My sc takes no oil. I wanted to use syntec or mobil1, well it make a diffrence?

I dont know if it makes a difference or not but Ive been using castrol syntec 5w30 for the last 50k miles now and it seems to be fine....except that i burn about a quart between oil changes....not sure about that one but i seriously doubt its related to the oil itself... cant think of a reason for that....maybe a ring i blew

hey undefeated, if you drive hard and use a quart per change, yer doin fine. Ballsout race engines use a quart in 50 miles and are shot after 500, its all relative. In an engine with higher miles I would not take changing grades or brands lightly - you may end up dissolving deposits that will end up increasing oil consumption - if it ain't broke don't fix it - if you live in a temperate climate 10/30 is prolly ok, dealers here in the NW often use it cuz 5/30 is harder to get here - make sure you use oem toyota filters with good check valves, immediate oil pressure during cold startup is critical for older engines -

Woah, just caught myself...i must be more tired than i think i am....I use castrol syntec 10w30, its what the toyota delaership reccomended to me way back when i got the car and knew very little so now im just gonna stick with it...yeah yeah i know, these 18hr days are catching up.... sorry about that... hey strongsail, what do you think about putting an oil pressure gauge in our kinds of cars? ive been debating lately as to whether i want to put a little gauge pod on the upper left side.... i havent seen one before so im hoping it wouldnt look ricer-styled.... i dont know what other gauges id want to put in there besides an air/fuel meter but id like to know the pressure im running at the track.... i dont know if itd actually make me slow down though... especially when i see those civics.....

I will give Toyota the benefit of the doubt and assume that the warning light will save me if my oil filter explodes or somethin - whats an oil pressure gauge gonna tell you, it's higher when the engine is cold and lower when it's hot, that's a given - you might want an oil temp gauge instead if you spend a lot of time with your foot in the kitchen -
