Default What's a good paint to use on wheels?

I am about to put my 18s on my SC400 in a couple weeks after I get it dropped. I had used Duplicolors wheel coating system in silver to paint them but it doesn't seem to cover well. I used Aircraft Remover to get the old paint/coating off and sanding them, cleaned them up, etc. I primed them with a few coats, then hit them with the silver Duplicolor. I'm not really pleased with the finish as it seems to still have a slightly rough texture, it's not nearly as smooth a finish as say the paint on my factory IS300 wheels. I tried wetsanding it with a real high grit just to help smooth it out some but it seems to just cut almost back down to the primer as I can lightly see it's color coming through.

Should I get a higher quality regular spray paint and hit them with that? I don't mind buying a small amount of paint in a can and using a spray gun either, as I could borrow one from a friend and I have a compressor, I just want a good quality finish w/o having to pay crazy high powdercoating prices.

Honestly if you want something long lasting and durable, get them powder coated.

I just saw the Duplicolor kit in the store the other day. I was wondering how it worked on the chrome wheels. Thats the kit I saw. Honestly, powder coated is the best route.

To paint wheels on your own you have to media blast them...

Proper prep work.

Like SChema said, powder coating would be best for longevity.

My method was:
Blueprint color(s) on photoshop, check with peers on boards
Aircraft remover
Clean -> air dry
Sand [3m 320 sanding block thingy]
Wipe for dust with a cloth
Primer coats x2
sand -> prep wipes
I used rust-oleum.

Strange enough I too have use silver duplicolor and it came out gritty looking. I sanded it down and redid my wheels in bronze and my others in gunmetal and they came out great!!!

I dont know why but silver sucked..
