Not that I plan on ever driving that low, but in case of emergency.....approximately how many miles are left before you run out of gas when the orange low gas light first comes on?

Man, you jinxed me!!!!! I came home tonight with no gas and knew I should have stopped for gas, but I passed the station and came home. I now know, through MJR24's post, that I indeed should pack running shoes tomorrow

mjr24,
The tank is approx 20gallons + line. So I would guess about 60 miles on the high side. Here is how I figured it. I refill and it comes to 17gallons when the light turns on. 3 gallons left+ a little in the line and filter TIMES 17MPG with my lead foot... that is about 50-60miles....
Friend with a LX470 gas hog called me the other day to see if I was near him. He was driving thru the Bay Area Delta (no where near a station). He said his gas light came on back about 20miles and he is still 30 miles to a station. He didn't want to turn back but didn't think he would make it... I, of course, told him to get the car to 120mph so he can at least cruise a couple miles Long story short... he made it with no problems. He got to the station without a problem and put 25.1gallons into his 25.4 tank!!!

Thats actually really great to know.....you know how the owner manual is...when the light comes on, get gas right away.
If anything...maybe Lexus purposely has the light come on so early....because your fuel pump can go on the fritz if you drive on empty.....so now when you think you are driving on empty you really arent.....

if gas tank was really that low. instead of going at 125mph, u should try to go at 55mph.
that consumes less gas at cruise than at a higher speed where the engine RPM's are much higher and the car's guzzling the remains of that tank.

I usually refill at an 1/8 left.... I remember my old 93 Civic ran out of gas on her first refill, because the damn thing didnt have a light ( sucks to just figure it out when your empty )..... It was sad walking to the nearest gas station...... I will never drive on E again!

From my experience on my SC300
Gauge on 'E' = 4.8gallons Fill up ~16gallons
Light on First time = 3 gallons Fill up ~17.6gallons
Needle submarined past E and light on for 40miles = 1.5gallons 19gallon fill up.
That is as far as I go.
