Default Possible Bad Cluster?

On my 94' SC400 I notice in the cluster only some of the gauges work. Only the temperature, gas, and sometimes RPM meter. The speedometer & odometer completely stop working. And the RPM meter seems to work randomly when it wants. Could it be a bad cluster or fuse? Let me know what you guys think or recommend. Thanks

The speedo and tach have drivers that raise and lower them that go bad eventually. They can be changed without changing the whole cluster but you do have to take it out.

Are the needles not moving up and down or are the lights burning out?

Ohhh okay, so are these drivers easy to install or replace? Or do you recommend a professional?

The lights are on perfectly on the entire cluster. It just the speedometer needle doesnt move at all when I drive so I dont know how fast im going. And the RPM works sometimes. Other times it doesnt move at all like the speed needle.

Once you take the cluster out they just unscrew from its back.

Okay, so pretty much I purchase replacement drivers from the dealer, take out the cluster, remove the old ones & than install the new drivers. And everything should be operational, huh??

I don't know if you can find them from the dealer anymore but you can chase the down from some of the used parts dealers on here like Aliga. Usually what goes bad is the capacitors on the little driver/motor. If you know a decent small electronics shop that will replace the capacitors for you that usually solves the problem. My speedo does this about once a week so I've done some research for when it becomes a bigger problem.

Ohh okay, makes sense. Thanks alot for this helpful information! I really appreciate it. Will definitely check for electronic shops around here that maybe able fix this. So as far as the odometer (mileage gauge) goes, it stop working completely & continues to show the same mileage everyday. Would this also be an issue with the drivers or capacitors?
