Hey guys, couldnt find any information on this with the search, saw a couple threads about the fuel gauge, but they were a different issue.
My issue is that the needle only goes up to 3/4 when i fill the car up, then doesnt go down evenly, some spots it takes a while to move, some it just shoots down. Then when I turn the car off, and turn back on, it takes about 2 mins to climb back up to where its supposed to be. Ive been told by a couple people that the little motor for the gauge might be out.
Just wanted to see if you guys had any other ideas.
Thanks guys

Hey. I had a very similar issue at 189k. You most likely need to replace the fuel gauge in the cluster but you should find out first if it is just your sender. With my fuel gauge it would only go to 3/4 VERY slowly and when it got to 1/2 it was really at 3/4 tank. Then it would stay at 1/2 until it was almost empty, at which point it would go down to 1/4 and there was no way to know how much gas was in the car without tracking the odometer.
It could also be the fuel tank sender unit but I tried replacing that first with my issue and it turned out to be the gauge itself.
I made a thread on this a few months ago:
Fuel gauge issue (with video on how to replace in the cluster)
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...libration.html
Sending unit

Bottom line is it's cheaper to replace the sending unit versus a new fuel gauge.
Good luck.

If you've got a hookup, good luck! Follow my thread and look at the video. Lee specifically shows every step to get to that gauge and how to pop it out for replacement.
The only thing I'd advise is to make sure the gauge was for an SC300 and not an SC400. I don't know if the gauges are of different designs between I6 and V8 cars but I believe the fuel tank sending units are. My Toyota parts guy found a couple of different P/N's for gauges that affected different years despite the clusters looking nearly the same for all SC's. It was easiest to just go from my car's VIN to order the correct one.
