Interesting, I wonder if they revised them or something? How long ago was this?

Nah they made their own. They gave the ebay ones back to me. I had the build done a month ago.

just curious but why ported? are the 6.5's providing your low bass? i know that ports have to be very precisely designed. the pros use software to calculate port length and diameter. and even the position of the port to the woofer is important. although ported boxes can hit a slightly higher db then sealed boxes if they are not perfectly designed you are probably losing quality. sealed is the way to fly for panel speakers always. but i would love to hear why and how you ported them because i could be misinformed.

I just removed the extensions, drilled new holes, and attached the speakers right to the plate. Also had to trim a bit off the door panel cause it was pushing onto the speaker.

So you just stuffed some material behind it. Doesn't seem like its sealed very good, but as long as it works for you thats all that matters right. So judging by what Ive seen in this thread it appears to be pretty easy to make a faceplate to upgrade to a larger set of speakers, weather your using your OEM speaker pods or not right?

I just stuffed some stuffing in there for now as I am waiting on some foam waterproof baffles to show up in the mail which will seal it up, I used mb quart 6.5 and it sounds 100x better than the crappy bass stream speakers that some moron hacked in there before...People are just stupid!

I just installed 6.5 components for the fronts and rear. I did exactly what xspsi6 did. also once you get rid of the extensions and trim the door panel from the inside, the speakers wont hit whatsoever. Very very easy to do and beats having to custom fab something.

Did you have to trim the rears to get a 6.5 to fit? That's next for me.

Here's my Focal 165 CA1 6.5's in the rear...

Not sure what went into fitting these in as a shop installed them.
