Default I know, I know, the search keys....

Quick question:

Has anyone on here replaced the o2 sensor on the 2JZ 98-00 SC300 before? Is it a easy job or do I need to hire a mechanic. I'm a decent mechanically inclined fella. I took off my headlights lights and replaced the CD player. Maybe I don't have the correct tools for the job?

My check engine light just came on and the car gave me the O2 code at Autozone....

It is super easy to change out the o2 sensor. Just locate the o2 sensor and get a o2 sensor removal tool and remove and replace. If you get the sensor that is plug in play then its more expensive than the one that your hardwire together.

real easy! though sometimes they can be rusted in pretty good. take a lot of torque to get out spray some penetrating fluid in the threads the night before and again before you break it loose. and you can get it hot first by running the engine.

they make a special socket for o2 sensors that they rent out at autozone, although when car throws an a code for the o2 sensors rarely is it the sensor that wrong, it is the readings the sensor is seeing that isnt right, it could be seeing the engine running too rich or too lean, could be anything from a vacuum leak to a stuck injector. replaceing the o2 rarly fixes that code

What is all this talk about special sockets...use a pair of vice-grips and save the cash, Ive been doing that for the last 20+ yrs and never had a problem or an o2 sensor socket.. I laugh every time I see those "special" tools they charge twice as much for.

But yeah, o2 sensors are super easy to replace..where in TX are you? If your in or around Houston, Ill change it for free, just bring the sensor.

100% agreed with Turbo- The only time you'd need an 02 socket is when you are in a tight spot that does not allow you to use vice grips to get it off. Spray some penetrating lube on it, let it sit for 30 and yank away. They are almost always tight as hell. It will take you longer to get the tool, get under the car and put the wrench on than it will to get it off and replace it.

Turbo! Thanks for the offer. If only I lived in Houston. I'm in Dallas. Well, I'll know tomorrow when I replace the o2 sensor was the issue when I put in the new one.

the computers fuel trim levels have to adjust themselves, disconnect the negative battery terminal and forget about it for 20 minutes, when you come back and connect it should relearn everything.

^^^ TopDog, I'll try that and see what happens. Still haven't had the time to replace the O2 sensor. Gonna hit up the battery in the morning.
