Seeking Advice from the OG's.
Hello everyone. First post, been lurking on this website for a long time reading and trying to learn. About to purchase a '93 Sc300 5spd manual with 147k on the odometer. Looks clean inside & out, waiting to have the pre purchase inspection done at the dealership. Anything I need to watch out for that only an oldschool SC owner would know. Any info would help. Oh yeah..seller wants $5800....think I can talk em down though.

XarmyShtr, be sure to ask for any maintenance documents that the owner may have. Also, if you can get the VIN #, you can check for any service performed at the Lexus dealer for free on Lexus.com
I've never dealt with a PPI at the Lexus dealer for a car that old, so they might include the service history.

i dont think 5800 is a lot... if he is asking 5800 then that means u can give him 5200... and 147k is not a lot of miles for a car that can last u way more then double that... i say watch for the stuff ppl already mentioned and to add one more check undercarriage for excesive rust... i noticed that in my search for the right sc too many of them were trashed underneath due to the fact that ppl slam the crap out of these cars. good luck

That is way high, I'm not normally a lowballer but thats really high. I just bought a 95 sc300 with 118k in January. I paid $4200 for mine, its not a 5spd but it really shouldn't be that big of a difference. My car is not a junker either, everything works and the body is straight, only a few door dings. Its even had the timing belt and stuff done recently. The interior shows some wear but I'm going to replace it anyway.

In general, manual cars are generally price lower than auto cars. Even though blue book may say one price, we the consumer change how pricing works. As nice 5-speed SCs are somewhat of a rarity, price goes up in our eyes. This works in a similar fashion in the Supra market for the 6-speed. So yes, a 5-speed in general is worth more.
Don't even get me started on a 97' Black on Black factory 5-speed. I have my eyes set on one right now, I can only hope...

considering a 5 speed swap is at least $1000 done correctly and that this is an original 5 speed so therefore rarer completely invalidates your statement that $5800 is "way too high". Maybe a little high sure- but based on what you paid $5200 is more than reasonable

With the car he is looking at having considerably higher miles than mine and the likely possibility that the seller isn't among the sc crowd and therefore won't know that manuals are more preferred he should be able to get it for much lower than $5800. I'd offer $4500 on it.
