If you're going to pressure wash it bring bags that cover the alternator, dizzy cap and a garbage bag to cover the top half of the motor. You'll be fine.

If you DON'T Garbage Bag the top half, the nice seals in the spark plug galleys will allow water to leak past and puddle in (which doesn't evaporate at that point) and in turn your spark plug wires fire at the motor block and not the spark plugs.

Easy solution to all of this? Do it right before you expect to change the plugs!

Yep, the main concern is the spark plug valley, its hard to get the water out of there.

ya know i pressure washed a few bays on older cars and had no issue so it was a big surprise when i filled my spark plug holes with water on my acura. let me tell you it really sucks!first i had to rig a way to get the water out. used a shop vac with a drinking straw taped into the head. got the water out then dried the valley's out with carb cleaner. then guess what plug wires where ruined so new wires and plugs cost 100 bucks that i didnt plan on. and a whole lot of work. not worth it at all. i will never pressure spray another engine. and by the way i was a professional steam cleaner at the time and used my trunk mounted system with about 500 psi and 260 degree water. steam cleaning is water cleaning. no matter what you have been told. i am a pro trust me its water. granted its steaming hot but most people have a misconception that it is only steam coming out. its not. if you ask me i say bite the bullet and pay a detailer to do it. if they screw up a part they pay for it. otherwise use engine degreaser, rags and manual labor but for god sake dont spray it.

Another piece of bad advice....

If you are degreasing an engine bay, you're supposed to wait til the engine is completely cooled off. Spraying degreaser on such a hot surface is a BIG no-no and will automatically render itself useless.

autogeek.net has some pretty good engine degreaser and they have a sale going on right now. i think they also have a write up on detailing engine bays. also autopia.com has a lot of good detailing info. itd be worth a look. both of those sites are highly trusted.

if u read some degreasers it tells u to either leave the engine running or have the engine warm so it works in full effect.

having the car running helps to evaporate the water even faster, just need to position the stream away from the battery and intake.

lol a lot of good and bad info being tossed around in here.

Why risk it? Take a spray bottle with some paper towels, or some WD-40.

You get more bad advices than good and safe ones!
I clean my engine as some other told you so. With WD40, a teethbrush and towels.

I just did my engine bay that was coated with an oil leak and dirt/gunk accumulated everywhere.

I didn't spray any straight water, I used meguiars quick detailer and blue rags (works wonders) or you can use a microfiber cloth.

Went over the entire engine bay with Meguiars Supreme Shine for your interior which WILL NOT attract dust.

The critical part to keeping your engine bay clean is to keep ALL covers / splash guards in place especially the main one below the engine block.
