You can get boosted for less than $5k if you shop around and do some of the labor yourself. Other than that a dry shot would be an option, don't waste time with headers/intake on a NA 2j.

LSx...? Depending on where you source the motor set, and what trans you decide on, it could possibly be less than $5k. But then again, you could go with a 1JZ swap on that budget, and easily go na-t..

I did my 1jz swap for about 3k, which included the cost to rent a hoist and buy a few new tools I needed along the way. I'm pretty thrifty though.

If you can't afford to dish out 5,000 up front...

clubna-t.com is gonna be your best friend for the next few months.

Going NA-T allows you to piece together your own turbo kit... which means you can buy things piece by piece until you meet your goals.

A 1JZ swap is pretty well documented and it technically is a "bolt-on" type of swap. Again, it may be a bit more expensive or it may be cheaper than going NA-T. Some very patient people have gone turbo for less than 2k.

OneJay, the guy that posted above me, has a very nice build thread you might wanna check out.

If keeping NA...
just to start with..
headers
intake
exaust
ITB´s

then
Higher forged Cr pistons and rods
race bearings
over sized pistons
oversized valves
lots of head work
Nitrous

That will neat you no more than 300hp with nitrous. But to be honest for all that work you better go na-t which with a decent turbo and tunning you will overpass that 300hp, which can be achived at 8 psi ... lets say with a t61. if you are looking for more well.. a T67 can make around 370 at 11 psi if I am not wrong. but at that stage you need injectors and tt MHG, etc....

the jump between the two turbos you mention isnt that great, and a t61 is more than capable of 350 or so.

I have a t-70 with a .96 a/r and I make 350 at 10 psi... Its super huge for the amount of boost im running and it spools super late but it feels great in boost. I could easily run more but I have an auto.

400 is easy if i bump the boost up a bit. Those things arent THAT necessary right away.

Nitrous is the only other option for real power if you don't want to use forced induction (I really don't see why you wouldn't want to).

N/A tuning a 2J is not going to get you anywhere. You'll spend equally as much as a NA-T or maybe even more just to get really poor results. (no more than 20+whp)
