I would offer the owner less. The car is nice.

It's a 92 man.... there are 2002 cars that are in much worse shape then that car. Chips are gonna be there in the paint since the car was actually driven and not in a museum like the low mileage corvettes.

pay a mechanic a hundred to check it out, especially the suspension. lot of people are slapping wheels and coilovers on and skipping the maintenance. I did it recently with a truck I was buying and it was well worth the 80 bucks

I'll definitely be doing that once I go check out the car. Thanks.

I'd say shoot for $4500. That's fair in my book.

This is what's holding me back. I WANT to pay 4,500.. the most I'll pay is 4,900 but since his asking price is 5,500... I'm hesitant in trying to knock 1,000 off the asking price.

Has anyone ever knocked off that much money successfully?

LOL i get so frustrated at the *** kissing that goes on in the for sale sections, if its not the car its the wheels etc...

He has you by the @#$# knowing your travelling 7 hours just to see the car, he will use it against u bargaining wise.

Tell him clearly that you wont pay mopre than 4900$ as u stated and tell him clearly u want to bring the car to a mechanic to get it properly checked out.

If hes not going for it then just back off, the car is clean but its not that clean.

Damn carbon fibre strikes again.

LOL im guessing your quite young and this is one of your first purchases, never be afraid to low ball or make an offer , and yes people have made amazing purchases here by bargaining.

**UPDATE**

So he just sent me an email saying...

"Sup man, hey a guy from So Cal is planning to fly to sac on Friday and pick up the car. I just wanted to let you know what was going on, he said he wants to send me a deposit but at the moment nothing has been set in stone."

So I think he found a seller for the price of 5,500. If the deal isn't finalized by Friday, I'll offer him 4,700.

So once again, thanks CL! I'll just wait for another one to pop up.

this guy is using a pressure move against you.

No one is going to offer 5500$ when they havent seen the car in person or drove it.

Hes trying to put the screws to you.

I thought so, too... so I replied with

"Yeah, no problem! Thanks for letting me know. My friend and I are still figuring out when we'll meet up (we'll meet up regardless if the car is still for sale or not), so if it is, I'll let you know when I'll come by Friday night of this week. If the car sells, it's absolutely fine. GLWS and thanks again!"

I made it clear to him in our past exchanges that I was going to be up in NorCal to hang out with a couple of friends and that the buying a car was just supplementary to that.

If this really is a pressure move, it screwed him over. Now I know he's desperate to sell.

Overpriced. car isnt worth what hes asking.

Wouldnt pay more then 4,000 for that only because its a 5spd.

The 5spd tax on SC's is ridiculous. As a few did mention earlier, if a similar car were to show up on CL Classifieds, it'd probably be listed for 6,000 or more.

I have yet to come across a manual SC for less than 4k that has less than 200k miles on it in similar condition.

I don't think this particular SC is overpriced, per se... but manual SC's in general. However, since I wanna get in the game, I gotta pay to play.

I'll just wait and see then... this car doesn't look like it's going anywhere. Thanks for the hint, Joey.

If anyone else has an SC300, 5spd for sale @5,000 or less in SoCal, definitely let me know.
