Lightbulb Ok, let me have it...

Ok, I know you’re going to slay me on this one but here goes…
I’m seriously considering getting these Dayton wire wheels with the knock off conversion. Dayton said that because of the design that only the 7” width is as wide as I could go. But I am considering 17” wheel. My 400 is black and I think that they would make a very nice, classy complement.
Ok let me have it…

Why the hell would you want to do that?

Why don't you just do a nice mesh wheel...like a HRE 540R or a BBS RX or something similar...

Wire wheels don't belong on a Lexus...on a '64 Impala, on a Classic MG or Aston Martin, etc., etc...not on a Lexus...

Forget the 17's. Get some 13x10's and some spacers!

Even a set of cheap wheels would look better than wires. What's next; some hydros??

man what are you thinking. I'm 17 and i have more common sense than you. you can get tires that are 10.5 inches wide if you want and they look good. don't buy 7 inch wheels, don't buy wire wheels, don't buy knock offs. those are all terrible wastes of money and people will laugh in your face.

If paying good money to be laughed at is what you like to do for fun then more power to you.

Bro -
do as you wish, but expect a gander from other people. Wire wheels do not compliment the GS as much as you think they might. But if you like them go for it. Maybe the guys in the photoshop forum could help you slap those on.

Virtually of course. ;-)

Also, 7" is a little thin for such a big car. Your handling would be alot different, likely worse.

OK<> OK
Thanks everyone for the input, even the cruel ones.
I agree that if I’m going to change wheels from the stock I should go to 9”-10” on the rear. Actually I prefer 5 spoke chrome - any suggestions.

Seven inch wheels are a waste of money and look cheap and funny. Mesh would be sooo much classier than wire. Are you looking for a sporty five-spoke wheel, or a nice fat dished five-spoke? Give us some ideas on what you want... http://www.work-wheels.co.jp/wheels/index/

Default don't think so

I see some similarity between the SC and the XKE, and the XKE sure looks nice with wires - but I'm not sure 17x7's would be rigid enough on a car this heavy in front, and I think handling would suffer, but traction wouldn't improve - not a good tradeoff

17x8 front, 17x9.5 rear. I got mine for $550 with tires and some curb rash.
