Default Foglight Assembly

Do you follow the same procedure to correct the condensation of the foglights. From the notorious thread Dammmmmnnnnnnn. Just curious cause I took out my Fog Light and water poured out of it everywhere. i have some clear silicone. I just need to know whether or not to preheat the oven.

If all the water is out already, just reseal the foglight. Are you trying to clean the insides? If so, I suggest you also remove the metal bonnet that covers the H3 bulb. It's a very easy mod once the foglight is open, and you gain about 50% more light output. You can try the oven trick, or the safer alternative, which is the hot water trick.

I submerge it completely in 190-degree water. Wait like 20 minutes. Pry a lot. Submerge in a fresh batch of 190-degree water. Wait another 20 minutes. Pry more. The foglight is sealed up reeeeaaaal well so don't be shy with it. After prying the second one open, my fingers were numb.

be very careful w/ the hot water technique. you'll want to get some distilled water and run it over the entire foglight inside and out.

heheh rich, where did you learn that wonderful hot water trick =)

Heat gun... $30 at home depot. Just be careful not to leave it on the plastic too long.

Default Finally.....

OK guys....I finally pried the SOB off and to my dismay the entire inside of the housing is peeling apart. I don't know of a way to rectify this...so i must buy a new one. that sux.

Oh yeah... has anyone else had this problem, with the plastic just kind of crumbling...mine is a '95. Does Koito make all of the housings. I went to their website to try and find any information. But all I got was Japanese. I'm not very fluent so I gave up on this.

Hehe, you the man Johnny!

LexSteele, did you finally get the foglight open with the water trick? The Lexus adhesive is very resilient. You'll need to have the assembly heated to the point where you can barely hold it without burning your skin. And when it gets that hot, you need to keep heating it so the adhesive is fully softened inside-out. Then you have to pry for all you're worth until one edge gives. Once you get that side to give open a little, the rest will be cake. Don't be fooled, it takes quite a bit of work to bust them open. I think the foglight is a bit harder than the headlight because the lip tucks in more, which gives the adhesive better retention.

BTW, Lex, when you say the plastic is peeling, are you talking about the reflective piece or the gray housing piece? That hasn't happened to me yet.

Yeah...the reflective piece is flaking off. But the main concern is the housing itself is crumbling. Kinda like a cracker, exactly like a cracker. So I guess I need to try and get a new set. Your guys know any kinda prices??? Thanks for all the help. BTW lex400sc i used my girlfriends hair dryer, and a puttty knife. worked good... putty knives are now my favorite tool
