Default Wood trim ideas

The wood trim in the SC right now is that light brown walnut (pretty sure) and was playing with the idea of re-staining to make it a darker, classier trim.
Does anyone have any ideas or advice? an if you have done something like this, please post pics on this, i'd love to see what others have done. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's a veneer, so "re-staining" wouldn't work. You could try to tint it a little, perhaps use some nightshade on it to get it darker

Okay, I had a feeling but I wanted more input about this, would the wood grain be able to show thru the nightshade an not all painted over an nastly?

Nightshade is what people use to "tint" their tail lights. If you do a light enough coat, the grain could still show through.

I sanded mine down and had my buddy paint it with black paint from PPG. Then sanded it down again with 200 grit. Then sprayed 5-6 coats of clear.. Its awesome looking.. Its shiny!

The 92 SC400 has a highly polished polyurathne finish on the wood. The wood is actually a veneer on an aluminum panel. It' really a high quality product. It won't warp and all you have to do is occasionally wax it with car wax. My wood still looks factory perfect and I am the original owner of this machine. I can't imagine painting over the wood!

How difficult was it for you to sand down the wood? I always heard it was tough, but I want to go the route you went.

Also, how much was the PPG paint and where do you get it from?

I am not sure of the paint cost. He already had a quart leftover luckily for me when I wanted him to paint it. He bought it from the local auto paint store in Huntsville, AL. I helped him sand it. I started with 220, then 320, then 800, then, 1500, then 2000. Started using water at the 1500 mark.

The results were amazing.
