Default SCARIEST thing happened to me (electrical burn!)

Hey all!

i experiened one of the scariesit things in my life today (this morning). here is what happened.

i was trying to jump start my brother's acura (connected to my SC). everything was ok and the engine started without a problem. but then about 2 seconds later, i saw smokes coming out of the engine room (i was behind the wheel of the acura). i got out and found the jump cables got so hot (from the battery) and were totalling melting. as a matter of fact, they melted so fast, when i got out of the car, the rubber parts were dripping down all melted and the copper inside revealed. in about two seconds later, the whole cable got cut off into two pieces. i was thinking the whole battery would blow! it really freaked me out!

what did i do wrong??? i mean i jump started cars tons of times before but this never happened. is it related to the battery on my SC? or what?? anyone else experienced this before??

also, how easy is for any car battery to explode? i don' t think i will ever be able to jump start a car !!!

Cables hooked up wrong or they were already damaged

My first guess is you bought your jump leads cheap?

i'm guessing crossed cables or the cables had a slice in them making the pos and neg touch.

i just realized that this cable was a very cheap one. my friend's actually. cables were very thin compared to other ones. that might have been the cause???

i still haven't started my SC since the incident. afraid if the battery will explode

Default Really BAD news!!

When jumpering anotehr car for starting the highest current level flows while turning over the starter with the dead battery.

Except if you reverse polarized the cables. Was the Acura old enough to have points instead of electronic ignition? If it did and it started it was the acura's charging system that fried your cables and very likely your SC's entire electronics compliment.

Thats why you shouldn't leave the "good" car running while the "bad" car starts its engine.

I always practice turning on the "good" car, and then waiting a few mins. Turning off the "good" car but leaving the connections present. Then starting the "bad" car...

I think smokes come up when you clamp the Negative(-) and the Positive(+) on the wrong cable.....

Happened to someone I know...Put ground on Red, source on Black
