Default Alternator? Please help!

Hello fellow members, just want to thank you ahead of time for taking the time to read this and any help given. So on Tuesday my battery died, I called roadside assistance guy to jump start the car for me (1994 SC400), twice he put the wrong polarities on the battery via jumper box, I saw one or two small sparks fly each time he turn the box on. When he realized it was wrong (i was sitting in the car and saw him) he got it on right, turned on the box, wasn't enough juice to start my car up then he used his truck. On Wednesday my battery light was on the whole day. On thursday driving on the freeway my car died out, my needles were acting weird then car died. Got it towed, took it home, got the battery tested which was still good.

Drove the car to kragen to have the alternator tested in car and it showed no charge/power was coming from alternator at all. Went home took alternator out got it tested via the testing box inside Kragen and it showed it does work but puts out only 11.5-12.0V.

Question is, when it was tested in car it showed no charge at all but the testing in the box showed it did, could it just be a bad wire/fuse somewhere since the roadside assistance guy put wrong polarities on?

check your fuses underneath the drive side kick panel. Also check the alternator fuse in the engine bay.

Check those fuses and all of the relays that you can. Report back and let us know what you came up with.

It didn't have enough juice to fully turn the car over because I had my music playing for quite a long time with the car off.

To the other two members, I will check and report back. Thanks for the help =]

fuses are all good, so I'm guessing it must be the alternator after all?

How'd you check the fuses? You need to use a circuit tester not just by looking at them.

Don't mean to jack this thread at all, but have you figured out what the problem is at all? My car does the same exact thing it will sit at 12-12.5 volts, but only when the car is put into drive. Ive also replaced the alternator to a brand new one, and it still dropped to 12.5 then I got the old alternator from the car upgraded to 135 amp, same problem still. The drop in voltage only happens when the rpm's get low to about 600-800 rpm and the worst problem is that at night time, it will make a headlight turn off. So you have to turn them off and back on when that happens.

If the alt. tested at the parts store at 11.5-12, then it was bad because it should be running 13.8-14.5 volts
