I use premium. Drove 300 miles on 3/4th of the gas tanks on 93 premium. Didnt drive like a grandpa but didnt go crazy either. accelerated with 3-3.5k rpm. Enough pull to get ahead of regular traffic. I drive a 95SC300. The difference in price simply isnt worth the trouble. 5-10 bucs difference per tank. I say go premium. If you want to use regular gas and drive an economy car, dont buy a Lexus.

"Top Tier" gas is a scam, apparently to promote gasohol:
"1.3.1.2 Base Fuel. The base fuel shall conform to ASTM D 4814 and shall contain commercial fuel grade ethanol...
1. Contain enough denatured ethanol such that the actual ethanol content is no less than 8.0 and no more than 10.0 volume percent..."
Source: http://www.toptiergas.com/deposit_control.html
Gasohol itself is basically a scam. It is propped up by Federal subsidies, and only exists to profit corn farmers. It's usefulness is questionable at best, and damaging at worst.
In addition, the domain "toptiergas.com" is owned by General Motors. I'm not kidding - look it up!
BTW, I only use premium in my SC300.

Most people in this thread are right. If your car says it needs premium, it needs premium. Period. There is a reason why Octane exists, it is to reduce pinging (knocking) and keep your engine healthy. I always use premium and I can get 300 miles on one tank in the city (not counting the 3 gallons in reserve). I have never put in anything lower (mid-grade is a waste of everyone's money) and I don't wish it upon myself to purchase another new engine for one of my cars this year :P
