Default Auto>5spd. guys.... how did you remove the "p,n,r,d" off your cluster?

I know I have seen a thread with some pictures a while ago about someone on here that somehow blocked off or turned off the "p,n,r,d,etc." from the original auto cluster.

I want to avoid swapping in a real 5spd cluster because I want the miles to stay the same.

I must have searched for the past hour at least, but I can't locate that thread. I swapped to a 5spd years ago, and never got around to doing the cluster.

Now my interior is basically stripped so I might as well do what I've been wanting to do for a long time.

I hope someone can help.

I know 96 and below you can save your miles by swapping the board on the back of the cluster, but no idea if it'll work on 97+ clusters.

If I remember correctly, the guys who have done this (and there is more than a few) did it somehow simply. I remember it was something easy, but I can't find the info I have seen on the subject...

scviolence is saying Remove the cluster, take the bulb(s) behind "PRND2L" out, and since they will no longer light up, you really won't see that the letters are there. I would go with that method since it's simple.

no you do not need the R bulb in for reverse.

You can just take the bulbs out.
You can take the bulbs out and put black electrical tape to block out the hole in the back (do no do the front)
You can take the bulbs out the back and cut a thin black plastic piece out and tape them into the shifter display hole to fill it and at most you will see lines around the edges - if you stare real hard.

I was thinking about this too, but I think I'm going to either; get vinyl put over the front of it, or taking the cluster out, and taping everything off and painting it. Seems like a lot of guys on the supra (MKIV) do it by painting the cluster.

I plan to take mine apart when I get new needles and paint the back of the gear indicator section black.

Mine just has no lights. I bought it pre-swapped and I knew about it... but I didn't even think about it.

Never even noticed them till a week or so after I had the car and I had to do a double-take.

Quick Reply: Auto>5spd. guys.... how did you remove the "p,n,r,d" off your cluster?
