Default MAF Compatability

I'm thinking about purchasing an air intake from another CL member and we can't figure out if I can put his 1997 SC300 OBD-II MAF into my 1995 OBD-I SC300.

Or would I be able to just use my stock MAF unit (black plastic unit on top) and bolt it onto the 1997 MAF?

Or would the newer MAF just be able to plug into my 1995?

Any help on this issue would be awesome!

btw, I've also seen that some people on here have completely disconnected their MAFs and gain power? IF this is reliable (without long term deleterious effects) could that be an option?

Thanks

Umm you do know that for $10-15 at any autozone, pepboys or other auto parts store that has "ricer" accessories, they sell these things called MAF adapters...

And actually I may have one laying around.

This is the air intake. Its a custom 3" inch pipe intake from a 1997 SC300. I tried plugging in the MAF into my 1995 SC300 but as expected it didn't fit.

What are my options now?

@Turbodremz: What does the MAF adapter look like? and will they fit the piping?

Looks like this:

Yes it will fit your MAF. The order would be simple and like so:

filter, maf adapter, maf, intake pipe, tb.

The 92-95 maf bolts to the stock air box, simply remove those bolts, and bolt the maf adapter in its place. Install filter on maf adapter using worm clamp, attach intake to opposite end of maf just like you have pictured there, and voila! your done.
