That's my assumption right now and I definitely won't be going with stock cats. I'll probably do the magnflows as well since they're located right down the street from my house How many are on the SC400 2?

No fuel smell when cranking it starts right up, actually even better after replacing the battery. The fuel smell is consistent when it's at idle. The CEL and the O/D are blinking consistently so that means no codes for either. If the cats were shot wouldn't it through an 02 Sensor code or something of the sort?

the cats could maybe be the culprit.
You can buy a infared temperature reader and check the temps of the cats, see if one of them is overheating, thats how the mechanics do it.
Then you can just return the temp reader to the store when your done, wont cost u a thing to diagnose

what about the crazy rattling covering from the cat? that goes away when i rev it and hold it at about 2-3grand and comes back at idle.

So by this you mean unplug one plug wire at a time from the distributor and try starting it? If no change move on to the next one until you get some sort of results if any? Sorry guys, like I said in the first post I'm pretty new to the 1UZ...

hey sorry ive been away the last few days or so.
Guys correct me if im wrong but there is only two coils on the 400. the left and right and they both control 4 cylinders each.
There is no way his coil is bad because he would know if his car is only running on four cylinders.
It happened to me last christmas and there is no way u cant notice, your car will shake so violently u will think your engine is about to blow up literally, and will hardly reach 2000 rpm's.
it might be possible one or more of your wires or plugs is reaching the end of its life and it might be a good time to do a tune up.
Even if your wrong and its something else at least your car is tuned up , something u should so every so often anyways so your not really out any money.

Sounds like one of your ignition coils is out. IF so your cats would heat up and most likely makeing that sound and smell, running on 4 cylinders with no spark, fuel, wasting gas, etc. Check your coils.
