Key Remote ROM location
#16
Thank you for this writeup. If only it had appeared last year I could have saved myself $200 by having a Lexus dealer do this for me. There was no information on how to install this at the time :/
So... no other procedure to code the keys using sequenced locking/unlocking of the doors as with later model SC's?

I believe the programmable keys began in 95 but it might also be 96. I'm not 100% sure. Someone on here might know.
Correct. With the 92-94 models (possible 95) key chips are not programmable. The chip in the keys are only designed to work with the ROM located in the car. If you lost your keyless entry due to bad chips in a key or the ROM went bad You'll have to buy a key set (Key and ROM together) in order to get the keyless entry working again. I've also read other issues with the keyless entry atenna on both the keys and in the car. One might want to make sure that is not there issue before spending the money on a new key set.

This is beyond fantastic. My master is beat up and just sits at home. It's rough. My valet is rough too. I can atleast put it on my keys. Thanks for the write up. I'm going to tackle this soon.

We explored the rom and more in 2006 which may save people from having to replace the system https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...ess-entry.html

I know this guide is for older SC, anything for like 98-00 SC? My keyless remote is dying, i change the battery twice, still no light or flashes 1 time real quick, but it does not perform lock/unlock my door. Car can start fine.

I just completed installing the chip for a new set of remote keys for my 02 SC400. Would never have attempted that without the excellent photo tutorial. I have the following comments:
It is necessary to remove the rear seat backs in order to remove the side panel. However, that is not difficult as you only have to remove 3 bolts and lift it out.
I couldn't get the new chip to slide into place. It is a blind installation regarding the pins and the pin slots. No amount of trials and jiggling around would work. I could easily remove and reinstall the old one. I finally resorted to disassembling the box itself. That was accomplished by bending up 4 tabs which then allowed the top to be removed. With it open, I could then see the pins and the pin slots on the chip. I finally found that if by pushing down on the chip in the area of the pin slots that it would engage and slide into place.
That was kind of scary, but actually quite easy. Installed the box, connected the antenna and electrical connection and everything worked as advertised!
I purchased the keys from Sewell and had them cut the keys to my VIN number.
Again, thanks for excellent instructions on a subject that was rather difficult to find.

You're welcome - glad it helped someone out. Yes it took me a little while to get the new ROM into the ECU...it felt like it didnt want to go in all the way. Eventually I pushed in a little harder and it went in. But it did make me nervous. lol.

Replacement Key/Remote
If you need a replacement key/remote, search ebay for the seller "remote.overstock". Excellant customer service and products. Wayyyyyyy cheaper than going to the dealer. See link below.

I have rarely seen the style of key I've written this DIY for. You are likely talking about the 3 button key which is found very often on ebay. The single button key is not too often found on ebay as a blank.

Just looked at ebay. Their keys are all non-transponder blanks that will work in the ignition, but no remote capability as that requires a new chip for the receiver. Those are priced at less than $20.
There was one ad with a used, already cut, key which has a remote button for $99. That key is entirely useless and would not work in any form or fashion.
One has to know what they are doing before just buying a key that is offered on ebay.

couple questions here.
How much does the chip that goes in your Box for the keyless entry cost? Can you use any one or does lexus have a designed chip made for your exact car that you have to buy direct from them?
I have an aftermarket radio so I can not tune into the radio at to see if I get the signal from the keyless entry.(TEST KEYS SIGNAL) Nor do I know if My (RADIO)antenna is even hooked up does that signal correspond with the keyless entry signal?
