Default Fan Clutch: Fix or GO Electric

My fan clutch just went out and I'm considering just throwing a electric fan setup on it. Curious as to what all of your experience is on the sc300 with them.

I am about to do a electric conversion .. I will use Maxima electric fans and shroud. You can use Maxima fans from 1987-2002. Since they flow enough air for a V6.

I would fix the clutch fan, the factory clutch fan and shroud will flow a lot more efficiently than an aftermarket e fan setup. Although E-Fans will clear up a lot of room in the engine bay and make the engine bay look a lot neater, i'd stick with the clutch fan still.

I'm using the IS300 fan setup. In the IS300 each fan has it's own relay, so I followed suit and wired separate relays. The stock alternator wasn't up to the task either, so I was forced to get an upgraded alternator for Eagle electric.

If it's not the IS300 fan setup I wouldn't choose to run it. On extended hard runs and on some dyno's other e fan setups do overheat.

Ill keep my stock fan clutch setup

Is there a way to test and see if the stock fan clutch is still strong?

I had a nightmare scenario a few years ago. My fan clutch burned out on an older 90's Mercedes E-Class that I owned. The car overheated and I blew the head gasket. I'd prefer to not have that happen again obviously lol.

A few days ago someone mentioned spinning it in a certain direction and see if it feels tighter during a full rotation. I tried spinning it in both directions, and it seems to spin freely to me. There is a little resistance but it's not stopping or anything.

I have a dual fan setup from flex-a-light and I like it. It made my sc feel a little more responsive. I have had it on for about 9 months with no problems.

looks like the consensus is in. have to upgrade to a bigger altenator. i want to run electric fans myself. the IS300 fans look like a logical choice. and its still toyota.

i wonder if anyone has posted pics with that fan mounted in place yet on a SC300 radiator

You have to trim a little bit on the side of the shroud to fit in the SC maybe a 1/4 ", i had mine for the longest i will pick it up from the shop tomorrow since i am getting the brackets made so it' fits the SC or Supra radiator PNP.
I think i paid $250 + for mine , I will let the EMS control mine so it will work just like the GS300 .It uses the same fan setup as the IS300 my GS has 240k that shows how reliable the fans are!

Thank you all for your responses. I have decided to replace the clutch and ride it out until a swap is done.
