Yeah, I did a little more research on the digital cluster from Google. It seems to be a really cool mod, but the dude who said that it basically goes dark from the top down made up my mind for me. He was griping on the fact that at any given time, he didn't know how fast he was going or how much gas he had.
I'll appreciate that mod from afar, I think. Our cars are old enough and prone to enough "glitches" that I don't need to add another one. Especially since here in GA, the cop that stopped you for one reason would glance at the cluster and decide that you needed another ticket for an "equipment failure/violation". Had that happen with my previous SC when half the cluster burned out- ticket was $105, and thankfully the court threw it out.

the cluster is just starting to go on my soarer, no fun, considering getting gauges and ditching the Digital. the interior is cool, but it looks like it would draw a ton of power, and even more if you had a crazy audio system. i think it would be super pricey to get this and get it working perfectly. Imo not worth it, and i kinda think its too flashy. cool idea though!!

The dashes in my car have never dulled, even with sound system installed, guess I'm one of the lucky ones. It's ugly as hell though, Toyota really went overkill on the dash in the Soarer.

It is a shame, though. I applaud when a car company goes outside the bounds of normalcy and does something sick/wicked. This is the stuff that makes a car special and memorable.
Great example: anyone here remember the 1980's Pontiac Trans Ams with the digital dash? It was revolutionary for the time, but thanks to build problems and a faulty cover in front of the firewall, the heat would erode the gauges. The thing was set up so that ODO, MPG, trip and gas mileage were on the center stack- when the car was cold, I knew how many miles were on it and how many I had driven on a tank. When it got warm and then hot, the numbers would fade away. Didn't matter, though- it still made me smile everytime I looked at it, and I think that was totally the point.
It made the car special. Troubled, but special.
