1997-2004 BMW 540l uses a fan switch with a M14 1.5 thread pitch. I'm not sure on the temperature range though.

The only problem i can see with this is that it may not water to flow to the sensor it self. If you notice some of the sensors have a long probe that will get the water temp. But i will look into this sensor as well.
