Default SC300 auto - GTE 6sp conversion.

I have been looking for a SC300 5spd for almost a year now. I have a chance to buy an SC300 auto at a great price. My ? is this. Can the auto be converted to the GTE - Getrag 6spd as easy as the manual 5sp ? how much more work is it ?

If it cannot be done I will have to buy an SP built auto, but I want a 6spd. I AM NOT a DRAG RACER.

Any info appreciated.
Thx

If you plan on putting down big power (ie single), I have yet to see an automatic (other than GM) that will hold up to high HP. Go with the 6spd.

Depends how big of a turbo you go with. A guy around here has a t66 and his tranny is fine.

From what I hear, it's much harder to convert an Auto SC300 into a Getrag 6 speed rather than converting a 5 speed SC into a Getrag. It's not cost efficient either.

How much more work is in it? From what I hear, it's a lot more work and costs more that it is not cost efficient.

Maybe he ment the time it takes to do the conversion. Although from what I have heard the conversion can be done in a weekend.

Weekend might be pushing it unless your really really good with the wiring schematics. I've heard of people doing it in one to two weeks time.

There are 2guys down in Tucson that have done the swap in Supra 3 times now. Once you get it down it takes less time. But still 2wks isn't that bad for doing it yourself.
