Hi everyone. Picked up this beauty about 2 weeks ago. She's got only 249k on this 1995 SC400. Not much rust, which is great seeing as Michigan is my home. I can see all the fun I'll have with dodging potholes. Already got some new tires and an alignment (badly needed.) Did lots of reading on this site, and it has great help and loads of information.
Hey there everyone, great to be apart of the community now!
I just bought a 1993 Lexus SC300 for $300. The head was blown, a little interior is missing and the exhaust obviously needs work! haha.
Im just curious as to how you guys would go about building this motor. its the 2JZ-GE correct? the GTE for the supra only stands for turbo, other than that everything else is identical from what I read, but I would love to hear yall's input regarding how to fix this motor back up; I'm more of the 8cyl type but I've LOVED the 2JZ, for the obvious F&F reasons, ever since I was a young boy. the outside is in great condition, hoods got some obvious wear from the sun, gas cover is missing as well. I wasn't given the head, and from what the prev. owner said i wouldn't have wanted it anyway(was that a mistake?)
What would it take to build a decent head to later support a turbo, what turbo should I use( yes yes i know, use the search bar) what problems should I look for fixing this car up, whats in store for me on this build, etc etc... I really want to do this car right, I dont want to rice it out, lowering with some awesome wheels( great user input of which wheels to look at or even sites/links to the wheels would be great), what suspension parts should I upgrade for lowering, which parts, etc etc on this one...
but mainly, where should I start on rebuilding a head, or where should I find one first of all? Like i said, I do want to build it for later turboing when I have the money for it! lol
Thanks again for everyone's input, know-how, guiding and links that yall provide; also, links to quality parts sites for the build would be great too, or where I can save money on parts(should I use used ebay options on his one??) I hope yall have a great evening and again, glad to be apart of this community and looking forward to the knowledge yall share with me!!
----I'll upload pictures tomorrow as we just rolled into town after driving 45 mins to pick it up(ay not that far for sure!) but its dark and its been a long day. thanks again!!!!------
I've been owning SC400s since 2009, but not been active on this forum - mostly because I haven't had money to be modifying my cars. Now I'm finished with school and have some $$$ and newer cars to daily so I'll be having more fun with the SC's. I've got a Solstice and a Colorado manual transmission to put into the black car. I'll be starting a thread to follow the progress on the swap.
My baby that I plan to own forever, 1993 SC400 with 32k miles (bought in 11/2016)
My newest acquisition, 1998 SC400 with 101k miles (bought 3/2019)

Wow 32 k miles what's the story in that one that's unheard of
I was in school in Miami and I found it randomly at Lexus of North Miami. It was owned by an older fella who kept it as his vacation car - it still has the Turnberry Isle parking stickers on the windshield. He passed away and his heir sold it back to the original dealership. I got it pretty cheap because it needed a new brake master cylinder and the A/C and stereo didn't work.
I've got a birthday comng up next week.
Last week I found the perfect gift.
A 1992 SC400 with 56,564KM (35,000 miles)
It seems to be loaded, option wise.
It has a few issues. Driver's door window switch needs to be replaced ant the AC does not blow cold.
Hey everyone. I recently picked up a 95 Teal Mist 300 auto for $900. It has 240k miles and needs loads of work, but it runs pretty solid. I drove it 2 and a half hours home. I'm new to the SC's but I'm already loving it. I've had roughly 16 cars. (Yea I actually lost count, I'd have to write them down.) Mainly related to everyone here, I've had 3 MKIII Supras and never thought I'd find something I loved more, until possibly now... I'll be posting progress photos but here's one from before I brought it home. You all have already helped me with things. Looking forward to the future!
Houghton, MI.
Hello. I'm Jacob and I proudly own a 1994 grey SC400. It's been in my family for 12 years and it still turns heads when I drive it! Me and the car are originally from West Central Michigan but recently moved to North Dakota for a job. This car has some background to my family.
This car came into my family when I was going through Driver's Training at the age of 15. My mother was the second owner of this car and I'm currently the third owner. It rolled off the Lexus dealer lot brand new in Grand Rapids, MI, and has spent most of its years in the Spring Lake area near Grand Haven. In 2007, my mother came across the car at a lot in Ann Arbor and purchased it.
My dad surprised my mother in 2011 when he called her at a casino and told her that he bought a 1997 burgundy SC400 for her. So, the grey SC400 was put up for sale and I bought it from her at the age of 19.
She still has the burgundy lexus and I still have the grey one. We use them only in the summer months and during certain times in the fall and spring when there's no snow, dirt, ice and salt. The cars have sat together in the same garage until this year when I moved. Me and my mother stay in contact with each other from time to time, updating each other about the conditions on our cars; what needs to be repaired, where to get certain parts, etc. Last year, I brought it to the original dealer in Grand Rapids for service on my engine. The bill was expensive but it had to be done.
Currently, I am in the process of troubleshooting why my starter is cranking the engine at half power, finding replacement keys for the wireless door lock, and refurbishing the interior of the car.
Just picked up 95 SC300 stick. 174,000 miles and pretty clean. Needs some work. Struts and headlights to start. Then some body work and interior fixes. I’ve started using the forums. We already have a 2005 RX-8 that we have cleaned up nice. Looking forward to getting this one as far along. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions offered.
I've been lurking on this forum for a while and finally decided to join in the fun. I am gathering information about the SC430's so I can make a more informed purchase. I've bought, rehabbed, enjoyed and sold a number of cars over the years so this isn't my first time at the rodeo. We currently have an RX350 which we will be replacing with a 2020 RX as soon as they come out. I am searching many websites looking at the 430's for sale, I am also looking locally. My dealer has a 2002 on the lot which I'm going to look at and drive. I'll be using the search feature of the forum for information on the many questions I'm going to have. Once we get a 430 we will be using it as a Sunday driver and the occasional tour. I look forward to meeting you here on the forum.
Regards;
Bill
