Default Painted car myself, PIX

about 5 weeks ago i decided to paint my SC, it had chips and door dings, very minor, but i feel a lexus/toyota should look and run like a lexus/toyota.

the color is a dark burgandy/red with a pearl, it changes from a dark maroon, to a light burgandy to a red.
the car was originally GARNET RED

small description of what i did, i stripped most the interior out, the windows, bumpers, lights, spoiler, mirrors, rubber, where all removed, wiper squirters, wipers, and misc plastics where all removed. painted door jams, trunk. i painted it at a friends paint booth.

here are some pix tell me what you think.

heres a picture of my Talon i also painted.

PS im am NOT a pro painted, just a hobby, i have painted about 5 cars, 3 where done right, the other 2 where quick repaints.

Xavier,

You're a talented man! So you think you can paint my other car? As soon as I find a bodykit for it, it's going to have to get painted.

Looks great!! Headlights look great!! Would you be up to paint mine? PM me or let me know if you wanna take the challenge! =)

Tony

Thumbs up

Looks really good.
Seems so convenient for some people to just do things that others can't do.
You should've painted some designs on it...like dragons or flames

Looks great! I wish I could do anything close to that, nice choice in color. I was looking and in my opinion I think it could look nice to paint the front lip the body color. Just a thought.

Default thanks everyone

AcleanSC4, i would paint it, but im no expert, i dont want to feel responsable if it comes out bad, but if you willing to take a risk, ill paint it for you, theres ALOT of work involved.

howiedoit, i took an autobody class in HS for like 3 days and quick because i got a job. Materials will where about $550. (dupont paint, sand paper, tape, etc.)

Aznteazer, thanks man, Ghost flames, i dunno and when flames go out of style im stuck with them

Lex Luthor there 10.5 R and 9.5 F, there Work, Ryvers, the offset i dont know, i got them off a supra and fit fine, i had Michlen's 285/35 and now i have dunlop 285/35 and they fit too small, i could have gone 295 in the dunlop brand.

Sc4oo, the link is working again, the server was down.check it out

Phoenix88, thanks, but i havnt installed the front lip yet, its going to be the same color as body.

Somebody ask me for the HOW TO on the wiring, headlight cleaning, heres the link http://www.pbase.com/xavier

That's extraordinary work for a hobbyist, especially someone who only took 3 days worth of the class in HS!

I think a lot of the quality of a paint job comes down to prep work and patience to do it right. Obviously you do both well. Both of those cars look factory at a glance. You have to look hard for evidence of non-pro work.

Too bad I live too far away or I'd have you do mine. It's covered with chips and dings, too.

Default Hey all

ok im getting alot of PM's

people want me to paint there car, im not a pro, but i can tell you what you need to do to make it look nice, and i can shoot it for you, however i dont have a paint gun, i do but not a high quality gun, i barrow my friends gun but i hate to ask. so a good gun such as SATA and GEO are both great guns, i've used both, they run about $600, so lets get 3 or 4 people to chip in for me to buy a gun and ill shoot 3-4 cars for ya, you do all the prep, and do all the arrangments (booth etc) and ill shoot it. i ask that you buy the paint through the company that i buy my paint at. the reason is i have more experiance using that paint (du pont) and i get a discount there also.

Paint, clear, hardener, reducer, runs about $350-$500 depending on color.

cheaper paint might run about $70-$200. but if your going throu the labor you might as well gete a better paint.

on the plus side you will learn little about paint, and you will be there 100% of the time. so you will get it the way you want it.
what you put into your paint is what you get out of it. paint is 90% prepwork.

im willing to meet with people to explain what they need too. but you will need TIME a good job takes more than ONE DAY.

PS color changes are ALOT of work.
