i drove in the rain a few times this week,no issues

 

ive has my sc for a week today, and its rained maybe 3 or 4 days within this week, and was snowy 2 days. being this is my first rwd car, im pretty cautious, but havent had any problems with the rain or snow. but i also dont floor it when i see the wet roads.

 

Driving in Las Vegas in the rain is like driving on ice, the asphalt has a higher oil content out here so it doesn't melt in the summer heat.

The first rain after a long dry spell, and it's like a skating rink.

With the traction control off, you can get sideways easily with too much throttle, the traction control makes it a little safer.


Bottom line:

These are powerful RWD, front engine cars.

If you're not experienced with this type of vehicle, these cars can be VERY DANGEROUS.

I drive this car confidently in snow, but i'm afraid of my GF driving it anywhere.

 

I drive in 30 degree ice slush with the crappiest all seasons ever, and a welded differential with a 1jz Single Turbo.

I feel like Colin McRae. But then again, I'm a New Englander, so my driving skills are super-human.

 

problems driving in the rain to me make me question the driver...
every car is different and its limits should be explored not come up on in error.

with traction control and all, i thought the sc was almost brainless to drive.

i actually tturn off the traction control button when it rains, just to have some fun, otherwise its a boring car to drive in the rain and in florida we get plenty of it...

does anyone complaining come from a classic car background? no buttons, inferior suspensions etc...

 

so, lsd lsd lsd. and tires. are the key yo keeping these cars off the guardrail huh??

 

.....tires.....if you don't like what rain and or wet roads does to your driving pleasure, simple go to TIRERACK and check out their website. TONS of info on tire choices for your SC based on how you drive and conditions you drive in. I am currently running GENERAL Exclaim UHP's on my Lexus SC300 (and on my BMW 330CI and on my Mr2 Mk1 SC). TireRack's rating system AND reviews is SPOT ON! and these tires have been great UHP tires down here in Houston and are VERY good in the rain. A VERY big bang for the buck tire in my opinion!

 

Its been raining like hell in Tx past few days, my SC3 is like a tank in the rain.. even with 245/30/19 fronts and 275/30/19 rears. I'm running brand new Falken's with a fresh alignment..0 issues... I drive it 150 miles a day round trip for work and it plows thru rain like its not even there.

 

Here in Cali my brother and I both drive sc's to work. We both took the same turn (one right after the other) going the same speed in the rain and he spun out (luckily there was no oncoming traffic).

I think the difference was:
I was lowered on coilovers, he was not.
My tires were brand new, his were not.

I think that pretty much sums it up.
But regardless, careful in the rain guys and stay safe.

 

Thread is getting old but I'm from a classic car background. '69 Mustang 302 driven with a mostly original suspension in Florida rain with four-wheel drum brakes. The SC is undoubtedly a far superior car for handling and safety but I still feel it should be driven with respect in the wet. In Cali, however, there are many grades and curvy turns to deal with that Florida often does not have.

 

Sc+ boost even with stock twins = Tokyo drift lol

I had to drive like a grandma in the rain... under 2k rpm. If I hit boost I would start spining tires. I dont feel safe in a RWD car with 400hp in the rain. Ill rather drive a civic. =D

92lexi, do all that you can to encourage that attitude.

I've found that mine can be a little touchy off the line in the rain, but only if I stomp on it or I'm not paying attention. I pissed off the driver in the lane next to me the other day because the car broke loose a little. And I have found that the TC light kicks on more frequently in the wet, but as far as a DEATH TRAP?

Maybe a DEATH STAR?
