Default High Miles SC400

Hi,
I came across a sc400 on Craigslist the other day. If things go right I'll be sitting on enough money to pick it up at the end of the week.

It has had the service kept up (timing belt, water pump, etc) and is really clean...

How does the 1uz do past 200k.

This car would be a rolling project.
5spd
Suspension
Rebuild a 1uz and swap..

So would it be solid for daily duty till I could get all that done?
^ considering its been taken care of...

Thanks
-J

These motors will past 200k easy and still run like champs... if taken care of of course. I've seen a few with 300k+ still running good

I just bought my SC400 recently with 272k. Starts up smooth every time and still smokes the tires

Check the compression and you'll probably find the engine is very healthy even at the 200k mark. It will easily outlast other components of the car. Make sure the ignition coils & distributors are ok and it should be very reliable.

Received my 92 sc400 at 180k and sold it at 207k. Ran perfect the whole time, and i was never easy on it. Seafoamed it at like 193k, helped a little bit, but not that much. I also know the entire service life of the vehicle though, as my dads fiancee bought it at like 20k miles.

But, regardless, if its been well maintained, it will be fine past 200k. I agree with a compression test though, to be safe.

Yeah im over 200k, runs strong still pulls too! It will break em loose easily with the 19's, especially on corners! Super reliable and im still pulling about 26ish mpg on fwy and about 18-20 combined!

Damn, you guys make me want one even more..

I have had lots of different cars. But This SC popped up and I like the look. If this guy buys both my s-chassis cars I'll be on it.

I think my other main concern is the cost of the 5 speed swap...

Closest transmission in a junk yard I can get a hold of is from a non turbo 1991 supra, $250, and 93k miles.
quantum auto kit for a r154 is kinda high.. -_-...

Brandon at 1uzfeswapkit.com is where I got my 5-speed kit. Great price and service that I highly recommend.

Plus, the non-turbo trans is a W58, not a R154. The R154 came only in the Turbo Supra. I'm running a W58 on my SC400. Anywhere around $200-300 is the going rate.

Good luck!

well, this guy wants my s-chassis cars. so if he gets them when his tax check comes through and ths SC is still around I may have to grab it up.

Here is a question... how does the 5 speed swap affect auto-x classing?

And I thought R tranny came from gen3 supras -_-

They are kind of ****ty with their classing some times..

Lets say, hypothetically, that there was a year that they didnt offer the SC400. So like in 1994 and only 1994 they only offered the SC300. Now, you happen to have a 1994 that blew the motor so you swapped in the V8. BAM your in street mod because of the swap. Its the same with MR2s. If you take the Supercharger engine from 88 and put it in an 87 your in SM2

R154 did come from MK3 TURBO supras, and also 1JZGTE cars.
