I'm not even interested in pics. All it's gonna be is a manual shifter in a 99 SC. I'm more interested in a DIY.

Hello CL,
I apologize for neglecting this thread for over a year. My only excuse is that I have been enjoying my daughter every chance that I get.

The car is still running great although I have not used it very much. I have to take my daughter to my parent's house every day and thus I always drive my LS430.

If there are any particular shots that you guys are interested in I would be glad to take some pictures. However, I figure that it is like SCENFORCER said..............pictures of a manual shifter in a VVTi SC. Not really all that interesting.

I'm bumping this thread as there has been a few members have been asking about this tranny swap. Also I'm getting more and more anxious about doing it myself and am curious about any further tips/info anyone might have

Pics aren't coming, I'm so bummed about this thread
I mean I have 2 kids and as much as I love them, they don't require that much time to snap a couple of shots while they're taking a nap.
I'm starting to doubt you even have a 400?
Good luck!!

^ this thread is not useless without pics. Its given inspiration for many vvti 400 owners to do this swap, me being one. Now I know that it CAN be done, and the OP has given us a rough idea of how its done. He's also given a good review of how the car drives now and issues that we can expect.
I've said it before, all you're gonna see is a manual shifter in a sc400 with pics. I can pull a pic from RedPhenix's thread if you want and it will look exactly the same.
The real shame with this thread is that the OP hasnt been able to provide more detail into how the swap was actually done. I could care less for pics cuz theyre useless, but a video might be useful.

Hello Everyone,
I haven't posted in some time. The car is in Houston again getting an R154 swap and some engine modifications that I will disclose when they are completed. So no pictures.......sorry!.

I did spend some time talking with my friend regarding the hesitation on acceleration that I described in my first posts. Really, it is the only thing that keeps the car from feeling like a factory-built five-speed manual. It turns out that he has the car set up so that the ECU thinks that it is in "Drive". Thus, when the ECU thinks that it is shifting it retards timing slightly in order to smooth the shift. Anyway, we discussed wiring it so that the ECU thinks that it is in neutral (what I believe that the Non-VVTi SC400 swaps have done) in order to try to eliminate the hesitation. This may cause issues with the cruise control and other things so he is not sure if it will work. I will let you guys know how it turns out when it is finished. My friend is working on some other projects right now so I may not have an answer for a little while.

This is perfect cuz I'm seriously considering an R154 into my '99. Would definitely be checking back on details of your swap!

If you make it think its in neutral won't it not rev all the way out or is that only newer cars?

I have a 98 SC300, i feel like this question can be asked and not sound stupid so here it goes. What did you do about the REVERSE LIGHT? Since 98 SC300/400's never came in a manual how did you go about solving the reverse light issue. (DONT NEED PICS <<< LOL) Just thoroughly explain if you can. Thanks!
