Default Climate control display

My 94 SC has parts of the LCD unlit. The actual crystal display is ok. just partially unlit. I took it all apart and got down to 3 tiny bulbs that seem to be soldered into the board. I had a similar problem but with a bad crystal display on my 90 LS and had to send it to a shop in California where it was rebuilt.

My question is can these little bulbs be replaced or do I need send it out for a rebuild as well? (I have bought the larger bulbs with the attached plastic sockets at the dealer but these bulbs are different)

A friend of mine replaced his bulbs for his Solara with different colored bulbs.
There was a wedgebulb that was lighting it up I think

Are the little bulbs available from the dealer? Looks to be some of that "non-user servicable" baloney. Seems to also be a jam to get the LCD display far enough away from the board to get the bulbs out without unsoldering all the conducting pins from the display.

You know everyone says you can do it yourself, but I dont think I have read of anyone actually doing it.
Taka, did you actually replace the bulbs that had to be soldered?
Chas, Bend the LCD unit forward, it will go enough so that the pins dont break and you can do the soldering.
What I would suggest is to go to Radio Shack or an electrics shop, bring the unit and show them the little bulbs, and ask if they have any similar bulbs in size. The blue things are caps....so you can take them off the old soldered bulbs and put them on your new ones.
Highly doubt the dealer sells them. Bring it to an electrics shop though, Im curious as to what they say.
DO NOT cut the pins though.

yes I have seen a thread on replacing those bulbs, with pix, on the LSOC site:

Use their search function, it's a big archive, if you find it post it here so I can lose the link again - -

I will try to get one of the bulbs out and replaced but if that don't work I will send it to Mikado Technology to get it rebuilt. Thanks for the ebay salvaged unit though I would hesitate to pay $150 for a used yard unit when I can get mine totally reconditioned. I paid $300 for the one in my 90 LS but am not sure what the SC will cost.

Why would you pay $300 to recondition your unit when in reality the reconditioning consists of replacing 3 soldered in bulbs??? You could go to an electronics shop and they would do it for $25......to each his own I guess
