Default new trunk lift support install gone bad :<

Well, I just finished installing -2- brand new trunk support lifts which I had ordered from Rock Auto. I know some other people put these on their car. I am disappointed though, because the trunk does not pop open. I have a 97-00 spoiler installed on the trunk. The new supports are better because at lease they hold open the trunk where the old ones didn't even do that. So I guess I am back in the market for supports that will pop open the trunk and hold it up too. Does anyone know where I can find ones that will do this (preferably someone who has a spoiler and has replaced theirs and had it work)?
I guess this answered a question from the previous post about whether or not these would pop open the trunk:<

The OEM trunk support lifts don't OPEN the trunk full either. The hood support lifts do though! If you do get stronger lifts then you might have a problem closing the trunk! Or keeping it closed!

Default sooo....

So you're telling me that it's normal for the trunk to not pop open and go up? Right now I hear it unlatch and I have to push it up and open on my own, then it will stay open.

Mine is the same way... pop open the trunk and I hear the latch move. I then have to go to the trunk and manually lift it open and it'll hold in the open position. That's the way it's supposed to work. You're idea sounds cool though!

Default cool

I was under the impression that it would pop open. But, if my fix was successful and it works as intended, I am a happy camper.
Thanks for the feedback everyone

Yep tdgoodrich!
It just pops the latch and the rest of the muscle work is up to you.

Good work!

Hey guys, I went to Rock Auto to see if they had the struts for the 1st gen GS and they don't. Did Lexus use different struts for the two models? I was hoping they didn't.

After installing a spoiler on my 93 SC300, the original lifts that were already weak, wouldn't keep the trunk open. I ordered 2 new ones from info that I gathered from other threads on CL that were for trunk lids with the spoiler. My trunk now opens completely at the touch of the button. I think that they were something like "strong arms" but if anyone is interested, I can dig through my receipts and get you a part number. They were very reasonable and installed in about 20 minutes.
