Post Are the SC headlamps glass or plastic?

I don't have my girlfriend's SC in front of me, so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Are the headlamp units on the 93 SC4s made from glass or plastic? And the projector units?

The reason I ask is that I know someone who builds HEAVY DUTY wiring harnesses that can handle 90/100 Watt bulbs with no problem. My only concern is that the headlamp housings will melt.

Thanks!

I am pretty sure its plastic. but DON"T trust those upgrade wireharness. i bought one from www.suvlights.com and he told be it could handle like 200 watt or the highest wattage i could find no problem. well i put in a 85 watt and about 1 month later the plug and part of the wire where the bulb is MELTED. its not how big the wires are. its the heat that melts everything and messes things up. DON"T DO IT. just save up and get HIDs

Default Answer to your question(s):

The outer covering is high impact acrylic. Wont melt.

The projector lense: glass, won't melt.

I'd say you'll be ok.

I got a 93 Soarer 2.5GT-TL, and the headlights, high beams and cornering lights are plastic. However on my friend's 95 Soarer 3.0GT he's got a 97 front and it's got glass high beams...

He won't be ok...it's not so much the lens and housing...it's the wiring. The wires are NOT designed to handle that level of wattage!

DON'T DO IT!

In the MANY, MANY years I've been involved in the import industry, I have seen SO DAMN MANY people burn their wires because they put in overwattage bulbs.

If you want REALLY bright, spend the damn money and get a REAL HID kit. NO halogen bulb (even the ones that claim it) will EVER match HID...NO WAY, NO HOW. Don't fool yourself.

If you just want the "color" of HID, get some DECENT bulbs like Sylvania Silverstars...but get the same wattage (or within 5 watts) of your stock lights...
