Thinking of buying a SC400
Hello everybody,
I am thinking about buying a '92-96 SC400 and I was wondering if there is anything that I should look out for when shopping around. Are there any features/ extras that are really useful? Any years that I should look for? I don't really want to modify this vehicle at all. Sorry that the post is so general but I really don't know much about foriegn cars.
Thanks!

wow! a person from colorado! welcome
Check inside the engine bay and look for any fluid on under the power steering pump / on top of the alternator. I know that 92-95 SC4s are horrible with this. I'm not too sure about the '96 since it has the same engine design... but they might have changed something about the placement of the pump.
Check the cd changers on these cars, you don't want to get stuck with a broken one, they are costly.
Get the heated seats, they warm up quick and are a must! hehe.
Also get traction control, the traction control works well on these cars as long as you have decent snow tires (for the snow, and that's in a few days ). It has saved my *** when i've spun out on turn in the rain and dry pavement.
if you see any you're interested in, feel free to pm me and i can go check it out. BTW, I saw a '97+ (slightly updated design) at a small dealer on Broadway, it might be worth checking out, should be pretty cheap too since it's going to get cold real soon

Also make sure both the windows and sun roof move freely and have the same speed. The motors sometimes go bad but the power steering and alternator is a bigger issue. Make sure you check that. The CD player has problems as they get older and skip or not function at all so check that too like hellasboy said. If its an older SC check the door hinges because they get weak too. There are a lot of thread on this so you'll be able to find lots of stuff on things to look for. If you can find a 97+ SC for a good price I'd go for that. I prefer the older SCs (pre 97 models) though. I think they have the best tail lights and body styling. I know other prefer the newer SC lights and body style but I dont like that mini grill on the front. the plus side for the 97+ SCs is u get the gated shifter the cluster is a bit differnt and I believe they also have white needles on the gauges. Of course the newer the car the less wear and tear it will probably have like onthe seats and everything else. Anyways good luck finding one. I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. Its a car like no other.
