Default Car Audio Gurus - OEM Amp or Head Unit?

I've got a Pioneer AVH-P2300DVD that I've just installed using the normal metra harness but I did have the Metra 70-8112 just in case.

I've got two 4" Polk Audio speakers in the front and some planet audio cheapos in the back that the PO put in.

My question is, would it be better to continue to let the head unit drive the speakers or would I be better off sending it to the OEM amp via the 70-8112 harness?

Thank you.

I've already got the other Metra harness that wires the HU to the speakers installed and working.

Now, here's another twist. I've heard about people using the Alpine Power Pack to boost the head unit output. If I could fit it back there, do you think it would make difference?

The 4" in the front are 45W RMS, and 105W Peak. The head unit outputs 14W RMS and 50W Peak.

Also I don't see what the factory amp is specs wise anywhere, has anyone found this out?

I could be wrong and thinking I'm NOT using the OEM amp but I'm pretty sure that harness keeps them separate...thinking about it now I wonder if that's the same connector that the one with the RCAs plugs into.

OEM radio is not preamped and the OEM amp gives something like 30W-40W output to speakers while HU is preamped and gives out 50W a channel. No reason to add an amp that gives out less power to a preamped unit. Bypass to get a clearer output. Aftermarket speakers to get even better output.

Quick question while everyone is talking about amps, does anyone know how much both of the stock amps weigh together combined?
I have an amp laying around and it seems to be too heavy for the ****ty power it provides. Just curious.

My head unit states 14W RMS and 50W peak. I thought the RMS was by channel (14W per channel) on a head unit rating? Is the harness I used bypassing the amp or still going directly to it in theory limiting my power?

This way might kill your factory amp because it sending more power than factory can output so it doing lots of work. Best way is bypass the amp by connecting hu to speakers. Otherwise use rca which sends signal to the amp instead of power.

Alright, that explains some details. Time to pull that puppy back out and redo it.

Oh yeah that was peak. As for RMS you'd get around 22W (even if stated was 14) from HU and around 8W-12W or so from OEM amp (there arent specs available but from my calculations this is what I reckon).
