So there was a drift event at Portland International Raceway on 3-17-12. I went to check out what might be going on. Not at all surprising, a large number of the drivers were going with the 240SX. The other half of the equation was the AE86. In the minority, there were a couple of Supras. However, there was a lone SC300 out there as well. I got a couple quick snippets of it going round a gymkhana course.
The difference between gymkhana and drifting in this situation is very little. In fact, I'd have to say the distinction isn't there at all really. However, in an optimum situation, gymkhana is more akin to autocross. There are generally cones as markers for one to follow as a course. Whereas in drifting however, you simply point a to point b with as much slide as one can muster...On a track anyway. On the mountain or in a race situation, getting from said point a to said point b faster than the other drivers matters as well.
gymkahana is actually timed and ran similar to autox, cept for being tighter and more tech. drifting is judged and is normally more flowing to alow for tandem runs and such
