Default Gold emblem question

My car came with a set of gold emblems. I was wondering if there was a way to remove the gold plating and keep the chrome underneath it intact? Also when reinstalling the emblems what sort of adhesive works best? thanks

Just buy new ones ... when my insurance replaced mine (gold), they paid $18 for the L on the back and $6 each for the LEXUS and SC 300 emblems. I don't know if they paid a special rate.

I think the total from my local lexus dealer was about $90 for the "Lexus" the 2 "L" emblems and the "SC300", all in chrome of course. Might've been more, i forget already.
