New 4.0 Engine..... Can it work?
I'm thinking I can switch out my enigine in my '99 SC400, for a 2000 Jaguar XKR engine. Does anyone know if this is possible??

Jag V8 vs Lexus V8
The engine from the XKR (300hp) is only mildly more powerful than the 99 SC400 (280hp).....
When you bolt on the Jag supercharger (400hp), thats when you see the difference.
Although you may be able to pick up a Jag V8 & supercharger at a 'reasonable' cost, fitting and tuning will be outrageous!
Are the engine mount points the same?
I'm not even sure if the Lexus ECU would cope? If the ECU doesnt then you'll be looking at an aftermarket engine management system (MoTeC?), but then you'd have all sort of problems getting the electronic transmission working.
I'd give it a few more months, the possibilty of a couple of superchargers for the SC400 being available before Christmas (FAT, Area 51), hopefully a simple bolt on, will save a lot of time and money. You should get similar performance.

if you want to swap your engine, why not go with a LT1 or LS1
they are a little lighter than you current engine and would get you closer to 50/50, respond well to mods, and prob. more reliable ...

Bottom line here is that's a real bad way to improve your 0-60. By doing an engine swap, you'll kill the value of your car - on a 99, that will be a real serious hit.
Here are your options in a cliff note version for real power:
- 1) Torque Converter
- 2) Supercharger
- 3) Turbo
- 4) Stroke/Bore Engine
- 5) ECU Modification after doing 2, 3, or 4 would help if not needed.
You can do a combo of these for best results (except of course 2 and 3. NOS is also a great option, but I am assuming you do not want to go that route if you are willing to spend the $ to do an engine swap. Do a search on the forums here and you will learn a lot about each of these options.

The thing is, after your expensive, time-intensive engine swap, you'll still probably produce the same 0-60 numbers, maybe even higher. Ever consider the drivetrain loss in the 92-97 SCs as being the problem? It'd be cheaper and easier to put a 5 or 6-speed manual transmission in to improve your launch times. And you'll probably gain just as much wheel horses as dropping a Jag engine into your SC. As for the LS-1, I'm not sure it'll fit in our engine bays without A LOT of modification (due to size).

LS1-
25" from the bottom of the oil pan to the top of the intake manifold.
28" from the rear surface of the block to the tip of the water pump.
26" wide with stock exhaust manifolds.
