Default 3rd brake light

I had the same problem with my car. There is a wire that runs down the right hinge of the trunk into the passenger compartment. There should be a taped wiring harness near the trunk hinge(mine was getting pinched when I shut the trunk). Turns out the wire broke after years of opening and closing the trunk. Give that a check....I think the wire was green.

Default wires

Yep, it's in the tube. Forgot about the protective tubing.

What do you mean it came on a few times? A few times after you connected the wire?
If so, maybe try changing the bulbs...very cheap....then if its still doing it you must have something coming loose wirewise in that area.
