Default Rear window defogger

Hi all-
Has anyone had an experience troubleshooting rear window defogger? I already removed the right rear side panel to check voltage in one of the wire connection points... shows 0 volts so the problem must be somewhere in the front panel or wiring??? Fuses seem to be OK and I do hear clicking under the hood when I press and depress "rear window defog" button, which also light up. Would the wiring diagram help me to id the break point? Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

never dealt with defrosters much, but you might want to look at the connection behind the climate control if it is clicking because I don`t think it is supposed to. (at least mine doesn`t and it works great)

I have a similar problem. I haven't gone as far as to take down the interior panel to get to the defroster connections, but my underhood relay clicks on when I press the defrost button. I have checked the fuses, and they are good.

How hard was it to take down that interior panel? That will be my next step.

hwallen172-
Remove the back seat (takes 5 minutes) and unclip the rightmost black clip from the panel. Now you can slightly bend it towards you and reach one plastic wire connector behind it.... Disconnect it and check the voltage (don't forget to press the button and start the motor) If you do get a reading, then the problem must be somewhere in the defrog lines connections... (there are 2 of them) If not, then you're in the same situation as I am.. If I fix it, I'll post my findings here. Good luck!

the rear window defogger draws quite a bit of current, the clicking you hear is probably the relay, listen under the hood while someone pushes the defog button, find the relay and replace it.

Thanks for the info, 84GTS. I am highly suspicious that my rear defogger is not connected. The car was hit in the rear and repaired before I got it, and the defogger has never worked. I removed the relay and tested it on the bench so I'm relatively sure that's not the problem, but if I get to the connector and still don't have voltage, I'll revisit that.

I do know this: in addition to the HVAC fuse, there is also a fusible link in the defogger circuit. It's in the same underhood box as the defogger relay. I checked mine and it's okay.

I am getting 12 volts at the connector on the rear glass, and my side mirror defrosters work great. At this point, I think my rear glass defroster element is broken. Has anyone used that conductive paint to repair that element, and can you give me some pointers on that?

Thanks,
Wiley
