Default speedometer mph 10mph off!

hey guys my speedometer is off by about 10mph on my 1995 sc300. Also sometimes the needles will stick and a light tap on the dash will free them up. Is there a way to calibrate it? A new speed sensor? A new cluster? any help would be appreciated!

As far as I know, there's no permanent fix to "sticking" needles. I'm pretty sure a lot of people here are experiencing that, and quickie fixie is to tap it lightly and it works perfectly again. My speedo is also off by 5mph, but that's because I have 19" wheels. You must be riding donks for a 10mph difference, lol! Jk

If you are running aftermarket wheel and tire sizes, then you should check out this calculator:

lol the tires are 245/40/18 fronts and 255/40/18. so its only a 1% difference. Is there a way to calibrate the speedo?

No. You are actually 5.3% off at the rears. And 3.9% off at the fronts

Exactly! Based on the OP's post we can assume no other!

The most popular way, and also the most dangerous IMO, people seem to calibrate their speedos to drive at a known speed (probably by using a GPS sysem) and adjust the needle. The dangerous part is that the car is moving and your attention is not on the road. This is a method I do NOT endorse, nor recommend.

However, using a handheld drill at a fixed speed, one could calculate what the speed of the drill is turning by timing how long it takes to clock off a mile, or two, or more on the odometer. 60 divided by the time it took to go a mile should give you a reasonably accurate speed of the drill. Now adjust that needle to the calculated speed. That is the safe way to do it.

Mine is off due to the swap and the replacement of new needles from Lextech. There is no method that i am aware of to caliberate the cluster. Contact OLT by PM and see if he can shed some light. GL

^ Wouldn't hurt to mention you got needles and stuck them on, not had the cluster rebuilt or sent in. Doesn't sound like it is the way it was said.

OP: You'll need to replace that cluster motor if it is dragging and sticking.
