That is definitely the sound of compressor surge.

If you don't know what it is i'm going to try and explain it as basically as possible. The compressor surges when there is more air than the turbo can essentially compress and it flows back through the unit. The fluttery sound is the compressor wheel operating in correctly and chopping up that back flowing air.

Most of the time this is caused from inadequate outlet in the system, no or malfunctioning BOV and so on. Some will argue that this is the death of a turbo others will argue there is nothing wrong with it. I believe it will most likely kill a cheap ebay turbo super quick but a quality unit shouldn't be affected to prematurely fail

-he ran a 12.5 because he let off at the end.
-to me its sounds like a SSQV bov.
-way to much surging, that turbo is going to blow up.

and by buddy goes to UNSW

A lot of factors come into play, funny how everyone says oh you make this amount of power you should run this amount of time. Driver experience is #1/type of tires/launch control/etc...

Touche ^^^^^^^^^

Playing at the track in my street Supra below in the 8XX's I run about a 12.3 of course street tires, rolling out of the box 2.3 60 ft but guess what It traps 145-150 out the back so yeah easily possible, more power doesn't necessarily mean better 1/4 times for a street car but on the street it can be deadly!!!!

Exactly if you really want to get an idea how fast a car is you look at the trap speed at track.
