Default Which remote start alarm are you guys using?

hey All,
I'm thinking of adding a remote start alarm to my car.
My factory keyfob isn't working, so instead of getting a new fob from the dealer, I figured I'd just add a new alarm.
I'd like one that would work in conjuction with the factory one, instead of just disabling the factory one.

Any opions on which make/model to get?
any good bad experinces with any particular one?

Thanks
Ken

kmn5,

I use a Viper 550 with autostart. Works EXCELLENT. Depending on what year your SC is...you may have issues. The early models without the annoying factory key code system will be a breeze.

I am selling this alarm to upgrade to the new Viper with 2-way paging etc...Let me know if you are interested in installing it yourself.

How much did it cost to install, and does it have auto start?

you can get a proximity sensor for liek 20$ and add it, I did. what sucks is when it gets really hot it sets ur alarm off casue of the heat waves inside your car.

Default PRESTIGE PAGING ALARM

I have the prestige paging alarm/remote starter/whatever else you want it to do alarm. My alarm pages me and shows me where the alarm was triggered from (via a pic of the car on the remote). On top of that, my SC didn't come with remote trunk release but with this alarm it has seven channels so you can progam it for trunk release. I also have little changes with this alarm like when i start my car door locks automatically open and when I shut car off they automatically unlock. It's an awesome alarm plus it comes with a regular alarm controller (not pager) that you can give your mechanic when you drop the car off or whatever. I think it's def worth it, just being able to know that if you alarm is going off you will be notified is a relief in itself. You can also remotly program the sensitivity of the alarm (three different levels of sensitivity)

FOR THE MONEY WAS WELL WORTH IT

Sounds nice Bladez,

Do you get the 1/4" mile range with yours too?

Yea I get 1/4 range with my alarm, depending on the area I have even stretched that range a bit. As far as price goes for that alarm, It was close to a year ago but I think I paid like 380 which included the installation. It was an extra 30 bucks to have the trunk release and door lock/door open when started features wired up. This price was after negotiating of course, because I never by anything for list price cause nobody likes to lose a sale.

on another note I fogot to mention that I requested to not lose my stock lexus alarm when having the new one put in. So, the shop installed the prestige alarm on top of my lexus alarm. So, I carry 2 alarms on me and have to disarm both of them before getting in the car. Pretty cool, since the lexus alarm doesn't really do ******t it sorta sits there as a last line of defense.

I don't have an after-market alarm- how vulnerable are our cars to being stolen?

I know Hondas and Toyotas are stolen often for their parts- is that a concern with our cars?

I don't recall any posts mentioning a stolen SC.
