Default Remote Start

I have a question about the various remote start alarms out there. I have a 92 SC400, how hard would it be to install the remote start in it? I have intalled a full system/tv/dvd/navigation and all in my car, but never an alarm, is it any more difficult than audio stuff? Just curious, any input such as what alarm, would be appreciated. Thanks

There is a thread here about remote start.

Much more difficult to install than a stereo. Remote start should not be the first alarm you try and install on your own. When you get into the ignition area of your dash, you will have airbag and several hot leads. Take it to a pro and have it done correctly.

I watched mine get installed and the wire harness that my alarm/remote start came with had a lot of different places to tie into. As far as radio stuff goes it shouldn't be much more difficult than that. The only difference is that instead of wiring to speakers you will be tying the alarm harness into your remote starter/door locks/etc. Depeding on which alarm you get depends on the complexity of the installation. I know mine must have been a pain to install, IT SURE DIDN"T LOOK EASY WHEN THEY WERE PUTTING IT IN.

It mainly depends on what type of remote starter youre planning on getting. If its a simple starter and comes with lock and unlock its really simple. If you have previous exposure to wiring and things of that sort this wont be that much harder. The hardest part is basically finding the right wires and getting into the tight spaces to splice wires. Other than that its pretty striaght forward. If youre planning on a more complicated system with 2 way paging and alarm with sensors it might be easier to take it to a pro because honestly it probably not worth the time unless you like doing this kinda stuff and have lots of patients. I installed my remote starter with key less entry and it wasnt too hard and if after doing it for the first time I think if I did it again it would be a breeze. It really depends on what kind of system you're planning on getting.

Thumbs up Just remote starter

I'm also professional in audio installation but never try alarm. It more difficult because you have no idea what wire is for remost starter, power window up/down ect. I'm still working on my SC400 alarm system. It has been three weeks since I started the project. Starter is very simple. Auto power window and door lock are simple too. I'm currently working on auto power sunroof, rear defrost, auto ac/heater. I have a computer with all color wire and diagram so it is not that hard. Just know your wires color. The alarm instructions will also guide you to the right direction for installation.
