So I picked up a 97 sc400 this past weekend and drove it 500 miles back home with no problems. Yesterday the speedo quit working and the odo numbers go blank ( still lit up just no numbers). I searched and found some threads on here for bouncing gauges and lighting issues due to the combination meter but none to say the odo numbers go blank and the speedo needle sits at zero. All other functions and lights work on the cluster and the problem is intermittent, once yesterday and then fine all day until this afternoon when it did it again.
I'm leaning towards the vss but I'm new to the lexus and want to ask opinions before I buy one.
Also I looked and saw 2 sensors on the tail shaft if anyone can tell me which one of these is the vss.

having the same problem with my sc400 also, sensors need to be changed, or u need to just get the whole cluster changed out.

Thats what I'm trying to find out which of the 2 I need. I work at a dealer so we can get parts at discount but there is a big price differance in vss and combination meter. Also I like my 99k on my odo

Any suggestions would be appriciated, considering the odo numbers are going out I'm pretty sure its not the cluster just wanting some experienced sc owners to chim in plz.
