Just wanted to say a little about how i got into the SC scene.
I had a Nissan 300zx TT sitting in my garage for a few years because i didnt have time for it.
I went to a local performance shop and was talking to the guy there about some suggestions he might have but he expressed his hatred to working on them and from one subject to another we ended up talking about his GS build...That's how i knew about Lexus and within the first few days i couldn't sleep at night because i was reading all about them on the net.
couple weeks later i bought a 1992 SC300 manual. i wanted to work on it but i was not attracted to the colors; exterior and especially the interior and then couple months later i came across another 1999 silver on black sc300. this one is automatic and i love how it looks so i am planning on building it to be around 500 HP daily driver.
The manual 92 sc i am thinking of going the NA-T route because the engine and although it has 175 kmiles has excellent compression in all cylinders and it was a one owner car...I am sure it was an old man's car and he only sold it because the exhaust is leaking and it sounds ugly and the car will need some suspesion work, but other than this it has always been maintained at lexus dealership. I dont have pictures for this one but I have pictures for my soon to be daily driver...
Seems it was with someone who knew what he had but wanted to get rid of it because of engine problems. it has a big missfire and engine noise which made my decision very easy.
Get the na engine out and put in a TT engine.
I am still little confused on whether i wanna go 1jz or 2jz but i am leaning towards the 2jz for the higher torque and because ,as usual , some time will pass by and i will want more power just like most of you guys.
The goal is 500/550 HP
this will be my first build so i wanna keep it as simple as possible
Hi to all, and glad to be an SC owner

Definitely go for the 2JZ. More torque, more reliable at your desired power level, and from what I know the 1JZ is very difficult to pass smog (or so it was in California).

Have you ever driven a 1jz car with 500HP? have you ever had one?
he is not in Cali and people been using 1jz in SCs and passing Emission in other states.
OP, remember You car is OBD2 so the OBD2 port will not work with the JDM Aristo Ecu, you need alot of parts to convert it back.
I just wanna make sure you know what you are getting yourself into.Gl with the project.

OP, build your car having always in mind your final hp goal so you don't waste time and money. But as Quiksc4 says , the 1jz should not be under-estimated. We have many RELIABLE 500+rwhp 1jz SCs around here. If you only want to hover around 500-600rwhp , your cost will be lower if you stay with the 1jzgte compared to the 2jzgte.Even the NA-Ts can easily make that power. Your final power goal and budget will dictate the direction of your build. That's just my opinion ..... But hey , it's your car and money , do what ever will make you happy ...
Good Luck !

I am more worried about how he's gonna pass Emission test in MD lol, it's no joke specially if you have an obd2 car.
1Jz is out of question if we wants to pass emissions in MD, 2jzge vvti na-t is not will cost him an arm and leg..
2jzgte will be the best bet but you have to convert to USDM setup , US maf, cams etc..
If the obd2 port can't communicate with their system , You will not pass.

300-350 isnt enough for some of us! I actually daily drove a fully built 400hp car with a 6 puck stage 4 clutch. To me, it isnt much power or difficult to daily. Although I admit, traffic was horrible on my left foot.

350whp will be very fun dd without breaking the bank!

500whp doesn't come cheap, 500whp is very exepnsive to maintain, Turbo cars are expensive to maintain specially if you drive it daily.
Your are not running the right clutch for you setup that's why.
