$50 for a heat gun? I paid 14.99 for mine at Canadian tire a few years ago.. still works great but I have used my girlfriends hair dryer for vinyl she said it was like a hundred dollar one or something she was mad when she found it in the garage so I'd assume a good one would work for tint as well

Even if you get that cheap wal-mart/autozone tint on the window right and looking good, its still crap. It'll turn purple on you in about a year or less. Tint is one of those things you just need to let the pros do and pay a little more for a good quality tint material too.

half of your problem is probably the garbage tint from walmart. you're better off getting some quality tint from 3m or llumar which is going to look a hell of a lot nicer and will last. but heres a quick little how to
first clean your window thouroghly, any little specs of dirt or dust will get trapped under the tint and create bubbles or fingers when your done. after cleaning the window take your tint and wet the outside of the window wipe off and spray again, lay the tint on the wet window but DO NOT REMOVE the backing on the tint. your just laying it here temporarily. make a rough cut of the tint to the size of the window leaving it slightly larger than the window. now clean the inside of the window again quick and thorughly wet the window. tear of the backing about half way and apply the tint to the window starting at the top and work your way down. have your window rolled down partly so you can reach the top of the window. cut the tint to fit the window and squeegee out the water from under neath. roll up the window all the way being careful not to move the tint at all. now pull the backing down a little more and squeegee and cut the tint to fit the window as necessary. you can carefully tuck the bottom of your tint into the bottom of the window to complete and squeegee out all water and you should be done.
remember
-make sure your window is super clean
-use lots of water
-be careful when handling the tint, any wrinkles or creases prior to putting the tint on will show in your final product
-use a heat gun to coax the tint onto the window in spots where it may not be sticking or your getting bubbles. but don't overheat or you'll crack the window
-dont roll down your windows for about 4-6 days
