The "fancy high tech" approach or multi piece injection mold is the only way this lens would ever be produced due to the complexity of the lens shape. There is no way to produce this lens in your garage by vacuum forming like the do it yourself thread shows. There are too many opposing angles and negative drafts on the lens so you would never be able to remove it from the mold. Plus, you would have quite a bit of warping if you didn't use the right material. See pics below:

Negative draft shown here would prevent the part from coming out of the mold:

Flange on the top side would also be hard to produce using the vacuum forming method:

More complex shapes:

So after doing quite a bit of R&D, my conclusion is that there is no cost effective way to produce these lenses with good quality, at least not in the U.S. As I've stated before, the steel injection mold tooling would cost $20-$40,000, and would produce a perfect part. It might be half that cost to produce in China but still quite expensive. If you guys can come up with another viable solution, by all means, please share. Everyone who has tried to tackle this project in the past has not succeeded because of the cost and also the complex shape of the lens. If it were any other basic lens, we would have no problem doing the vacuum forming. I think using the Ebay lenses with the new Rideskinz inner housing is the better and less expensive approach to this issue and its guaranteed not to leak when sealed properly

Does anyone have a way to contact supermade? See if they are willing to share some information on the production or sell the old mold. There is clearly a cost effective way to make these lenses for a fair price as they have done it

Hey rideskins,

I know what your saying is the truth , there is usually only one way to do things right , and sometimes its very costly , but I personally think there has to be a way to come up with a 'decent' alternative, somewhat of a compromise.

The idea I have is to maybe have this done in two pieces, since you say the mould in one piece is too hard(and ill take ur word on it)

Maybe mould one piece to form the base to attach to the housing, then the clear lense to attach to the base itself.

You are a profession at mould making and I dont see why it would be a problem, as it is now we have to depend on a third party for 'e bay lenses' and i for one am not ok with that , I dont buy off ebay for one and for two who knows how long they will be in business for , maybe after the mould is made they stop selling them ,,who knows.

I think you guys can get this done with a little engineering and tweaking no problem .

at the end of the day its only a moulded piece of plastic.

anyways good luck im following this thread to see how it plays out

@1WILLY1: You made two posts earlier about wanting to go the cheap route and de-line your own lights, and that you weren't interested- and now you mention that RideSkinz should make 4 moulds in order to produce 2 sets of lights that would be glued together... That sounds alot more complicated than it'd be worth, and probably almost guarantees leakage down the road. The moulds that he would be hypothetically making warp after a few uses, so Tony would have to continually make the 4 moulds you suggest, and make sure they all line up perfectly every time- sounds like a serious waste of time and effort..

I've contacted SuperMade several times over the past couple years, they finally replied today:
------------------------------------

Hi,
SuperMade has fwd me your query as I am their official dealer for export.
I export all sorts of auto parts all around the world...

Answer to your query regarding the soarer light cover, its discontinued model now and can not be purchased any longer...
And the mould is also not available.
I am sorry about that.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for further query if you have any.

Thank you

Regards

Ai

I seriously don't think they have the molds anymore. If they did, I think they would see that there is a huge demand for the lenses and keep producing them.

News of the day:
-Recieved the new set of Ebay lights to dissect in the mail yesterday.
-Recieved the nice clean factory SC light set today from Hil.

Ready to send to RideSkinz when he says there's enough interest to proceed with fabrication. I agree scviolence, it'd be nice if the people who aren't interested would stop posting/bumping the thread up unnecissarily. This is supposed to just be an interest thread, not a un-interested troll thread.

I'm curious how the ebay lights are made and sold for so cheap with a clear lens and their own inner housing design.
